NEW YORK, NY, September 27,
2000 -- L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) announced today
that its Telemetry & Instrumentation (L-3 T&I) division
is providing Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA; RTNB) with
more than 10 System 550 telemetry ground systems in support
of the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM)
upgrade program. The contract is valued at $2 million,
with ongoing system deliveries staggered over the next
five months to meet program milestones.
This strategic contract
is the second large multi-system award L-3 has received
from Raytheon to support AMRAAM. In 1997, L-3 delivered
a total of 12 PC-based telemetry ground systems to support
all phases of AMRAAM missile testing.
"The expanded requirements
of the AMRAAM called for commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS)
telemetry systems able to handle the very highest data
rates," said John Sepp, Raytheon's integrated product
team leader for AMRAAM test equipment. "The System 550
met our demanding technical requirements and offered the
security we were looking for in terms of a stable UNIX-based
platform."
Under the contract, the System
550 telemetry ground systems will support each stage of
the AMRAAM upgrade, including engineering integration,
flight testing and production. The systems are expected
to significantly reduce test time and cost since setups
created for one aspect of testing can easily be leveraged
for subsequent stages of missile verification.
"More than 20 System 550s
are in use at Raytheon for a variety of missile programs,
including AMRAAM," said Keith Wilson, L-3 T&I's director
of business development for flight test. "This important
award for the AMRAAM upgrade demonstrates the System 550's
position as the industry's preferred choice for high-performance,
mission-critical telemetry applications. We are proud
to continue our long-standing partnership with Raytheon
and are committed to providing on-time deliveries and
exceptional support to ensure AMRAAM program success."
