SAN DIEGO, CA, October 25,
2000 - L-3 Telemetry & Instrumentation, a division of
L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL), announced today at the
International Telemetering Conference in San Diego, CA,
that it is providing BAE SYSTEMS with an integrated telemetry
ground data processing system for the Royal Australian
Air Force's (RAAF) Lead In Fighter program. The contract
is initially valued at $1.2 million, with system delivery
slated for 2001.
The Lead In Fighter for
the RAAF is the latest version of the Hawk 100, the world's
most successful fast jet trainer. Under the contract with
BAE SYSTEMS, L-3's System 550 telemetry system will be
used to support flight test activities during the Lead
In Fighter's test and evaluation phase. The system will
ultimately be delivered to Australia, where it will be
used as the primary telemetry processing system for continuing
support of the Lead In Fighter at the RAAF's test sites.
"For over 20 years, L-3
has been providing BAE SYSTEMS with advanced telemetry
processing solutions for a wide range of flight test programs,"
noted Dave Heyes, L-3 T&I's manager of European operations.
"L-3 T&I is proud to continue our long-standing partnership
with BAE SYSTEMS and is working closely with the company
to streamline their flight test operations for Lead In
Fighter."
A singular advantage of
the System 550 for Lead In Fighter is that it will be
integrated with the aircraft's airborne instrumentation
systems. In an industry first, this true enterprise solution
allows the setup and control of both airborne and ground
systems from a single user interface, eliminating the
cumbersome requirement to manage flight test setup information
in separate airborne and ground system databases.

& Instrumentation leads the telemetry and test industry
