SAN DIEGO, CA, May 29, 2002
- The Telemetry & Instrumentation (L-3 T&I) enterprise
of L-3 Communications' (NYSE:LLL) newly formed Telemetry-West
division announced today that it has provided The Boeing
Company with a feature-intensive configuration of its
high-performance System 550 telemetry ground system. The
system will be used to support critical test and integration
activities for Boeing's Ground-based Midcourse Defense
Segment (GMDS) program, formerly known as the National
Missile Defense program.
Under the contract, the System
550 was outfitted with substantial telemetry data acquisition
and processing capabilities, including the unprecedented
ability to merge MIL-STD-1553, PCM telemetry, analog,
digital and raw sensor data into one interactive data
stream. The data provided by the System 550 will be used
to make strategic decisions regarding the missile's viability
and performance and to further develop mission capabilities.
"The System 550 ground system
we provided to Boeing is among the most robust configurations
we've ever built and will satisfy the exhaustive requirements
dictated by the GMDS missile's advanced technologies,"
said Doug golden, L-3 Telemetry-West's program manager
for the Boeing GMDS contract. "We understand the importance
of the GMDS program to our national defense and are pleased
to continue our partnership with The Boeing Company on
upcoming phases of GMDS missile test and development."
